"Works Great with PowerGenix 1.6 Volt Rechargeable Batteries" 2010-03-20
By Ed Harris (Madison, WI USA)
Instead of using disposable alkaline batteries with this, I recommend using the new Nickel Zinc rechargeable batteries made by PowerGenix (search Amazon). In contrast to NiMH and NiCad batteries, which are 1.2 volt, these are 1.6 volt batteries! I am starting to use these new batteries for every application that normally uses 1.5 volt disposable batteries.

 "nifty little dremel" 2010-03-03
By threadeater (Boston)
I bought this drill because it takes (4) AA batteries and I needed something portable.

I have an old Dremel circa 1973 that I have to dismantle to change

bits and a new corded one, which has more power and is a nice tool for at home.

This little guy fits comfortably in my smallish hand and is pretty quiet.

It also stands upright on the table when you're not using it.

You don't need a tool to change bits.

I just got it in the mail today so I can't say how long the batteries last.

However, I didn't get a model with rechargeable batteries because

they are bigger, heavier and replacing the rechargeable battery is half the price of the tool.

My only wish is that like the green "golf" model, it came with a little storage bag.

I use my Dremels for detailed jewelry/art work.

"Another great cordless tool from Dremel" 2010-02-18
By Hyun Yu
This is my fifth Dremel tool, all of which are in perfect working order--I know, I know, call me a Dremel junkie. I have the original 750 Minimite, 750-02 Minimite, the cordless Stylus, and a corded 3956-02 MultiPro Super. I mainly use them for my modelmaking hobby, and all three cordless Dremels are found on my workbench and get regular use. So convenient and useful for the hobby, as well as various odd jobs around the house.

I bought this 767 Alkaline Minimite on a whim, thinking to myself that this would be a useful tool to have when I run out of juice on my other tools in the middle of a project. This of course is a fallacy--I mean, what are the odds that THREE cordless tools I already have will all run out of juice at the same time? Not to mention the corded MultiPro Super I have. But, those seemed like minor and irrelevant objections in light of getting a new toy. I *am* a Dremel junkie...

Unlike my two older Minimites, which use removable rechargeable Ni-Cad battery packs, and the cordless Stylus, which uses non-removable, internal lithium battery, the 767 Alkaline Minimite uses four AA batteries. On the battery pack label it specifically states: "Use 1.5V AA Alkaline batteries only." I was able to use rechargeable NiMH batteries such as those used widely for digital cameras, although those are rated at 1.2V each (as opposed to alkaline batteries' 1.5V). Thus you'll get 4.8V total, not 6V like the alkaline batteries. I'm not sure how much of a performance hit there is with using 4.8V NiMH batteries. I'm also not sure why the warning to use only alkaline batteries. Here's a blurb I found on the web at [...]. It must be true since it's on the internet, right? :-) Anyway:

"Q: Can NiMH batteries be substituted for alkaline batteries even though they are only 1.2 volts?"

"A: Yes, for most high drain electronic applications NiMH batteries are ideal substitutes and you needn't worry about the apparent voltage differences. Even though alkaline batteries are rated at a nominal 1.5 volts, they only deliver 1.5 volts when they are fully charged. As they begin to discharge the voltage of alkaline batteries continuously drops. In fact, over the course of their discharge, alkaline batteries actually average about 1.2 volts. That's very close to the 1.2 volts of a NiMH battery. The main difference is that an alkaline battery starts at 1.5 volts and gradually drops to less than 1.0 volts. NiMH batteries stay at about 1.2 volts for most of their discharge cycle."

I should note that when fully charged, the 1.2V NiMH batteries show a voltage of around 1.4-1.45V according to my multimeter.

Appearance-wise, the 767 Alkaline Minimite is very similar, if not identical, to the 750-02 Minimite that Amazon sells and which uses removable rechargeable Ni-Cad battery. You get a slightly higher speeds than the 750-02's 6,500 low and 13,000 RPM high speeds--the Alkaline Minimite has 7,000 low and 14,000 RPM high speeds. The tool shell is made of semi-translucent blue plastic. I don't know if it's my imagination, but the material used on the 750-02 Minimite seems a bit stronger than the Alkaline Minimite's. Maybe it's the plastic's translucency that's tricking my brain.

The 767 Alkaline Minimite comes with 5 accessories, and no batteries. The accessories are: Screw mandrel, silicon carbide grinding stone (cone-shaped), sanding mandrel with a drum, a spare drum, and a polishing wheel that screws on to the screw mandrel. It also comes with a 1/8" collet. The instruction booklet is technical and tells you mostly about the care and working of the tool, and very little about how to use the tool in various situations.

In use, the 767 Alkaline Minimite works just fine, as I've come to expect from the Dremel brand. The noise from the motor is on par with my 750-02 Minimite. The weight of the battery pack at the back of the tool (4.9oz) is about 20% heavier than the NiCad battery pack from the 750-02 Minimite (4.2oz). Overall weight is virtually identical versus the 750-02 Minimite, with the Alkaline Minite weighing 9.7oz with the batteries and the 750-02 weighing 9.3oz.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the 767 Alkaline Minimite. I mean, it's a cordless Dremel tool, what's there to not like? The only point I want to bring up is that of value. Here on Amazon, the 767 Alkaline Minimite sells for $26. For $3 more, you can get the 750-02 Minimite, which comes with a rechargeable battery and charger. Unless this is your only Dremel and you're worried about running out of juice in the middle of a project, it seems to me that it's a better value and sense to get the 750-02 with included rechargeable battery. But that's just me. On its own merit, the 767 Alkaline Minimite is a fine handheld cordless rotary tool.

 "lovin it!" 2010-02-13
By L. White (MD United States)
this drill is wonderful. if u have real hard feet like i do [like the character, myra on the martin lawrence show then this is the drill for u] no more scraping the dry skin off your heels. my feet are so smooth now. the only bad thing i can say about this drill is that it gets "hot" if u use if for a long time. but just let it cool down and then continue. i use it on my hands as well[an avid gardener with the hardest hands in north america]

this drill is a must have!
